A humanitarian and development foundation established in 2020 to respond to Somalia’s most urgent needs while investing in lasting change.

Ramaas Charity Foundation is a humanitarian and development organization based in Garowe, Puntland, Somalia. Established in 2020 by community leaders and professionals, Ramaas was formed to respond to the humanitarian challenges created by poverty, conflict, displacement, drought, flooding, and unequal access to services.

Ramaas serves vulnerable communities across Somalia, with a strong focus on Puntland and South-Central regions. Our programs prioritize orphans and vulnerable children, internally displaced persons, women, youth, and communities where essential services are limited.

We believe lasting progress requires both immediate support and long-term investment. For this reason, our work combines humanitarian relief with education, healthcare, clean water, food security, agriculture, skills development, and community participation.

To be a leading humanitarian foundation in the Horn of Africa, helping create a society in which every person, especially the most vulnerable, can live with dignity, access opportunities, and achieve their full potential.

To alleviate human suffering, promote equitable development, and empower communities through integrated humanitarian and development programs that are inclusive, transparent, locally responsive, and sustainable.

Our objectives

What we set out to do

Support orphans and vulnerable children through education, care, protection, nutrition, shelter, and healthcare.
Provide humanitarian relief during drought, displacement, flooding, conflict, and food crises.
Promote education by building and equipping schools, offering scholarships, supporting teachers, and providing learning materials.
Expand access to clean water and sanitation through boreholes, shallow wells, water points, sanitation facilities, and hygiene education.
Improve health outcomes through mobile services, maternal and child health support, vaccination, hygiene awareness, and nutrition programs.
Empower women and youth through vocational training, small-business support, leadership development, and livelihood opportunities.

Geographic focus

Where we work

Ramaas is a locally driven organization operating across Somalia, with a strong focus on Puntland and South-Central regions. We prioritize communities where humanitarian needs are high and access to services is limited.

Our work may reach internally displaced persons’ camps, underserved urban and semi-urban communities, remote rural villages, conflict-affected and post-crisis areas, drought- and flood-impacted communities, and dedicated orphan care and education centers. We work with local stakeholders to design interventions that are culturally appropriate, community led, and sustainable.

Standing with communities through crisis and recovery

Abdi Osman Mohamed — Board Chairman

Ramaas Charity Foundation began with a simple conviction: every person deserves dignity, opportunity, and hope. Across Somalia, many children and families face challenges that no one should face alone — poverty, displacement, drought, conflict, and limited access to education, healthcare, food, and clean water.

Ramaas exists to stand with communities through both crisis and recovery. We are developing practical programs that meet urgent needs while strengthening education, health, water access, food security, skills, and self-reliance. Our orphanage and sustainable farm project near Garowe reflects this approach — a safe environment where children can learn, grow, receive healthcare, and prepare for the future.

We welcome collaboration with donors, community members, government institutions, humanitarian partners, professionals, and the Somali diaspora. Together, we can restore hope and help rebuild lives.

Ramaas is guided by a Board of Directors that provides strategic oversight, policy direction, and accountability, supported by staff and volunteers across executive, operational, financial, and accountability functions.

Senior laboratory technologist, health-science specialist, and institutional-management professional with 30 years of experience.

Dr. Osman Mohamed

Deputy Chairman

Senior imam with a PhD in Islamic Studies, a master’s in education, and 32 years of experience in social work.

Jamal Ahmed Adam

Board Member

Senior university lecturer with a PhD in Educational Management and Policy and master’s degrees in counseling and in social science and psychology, with 20 years of experience.

Kaafi Abdi Aadan

Board Member

Senior banker with 40 years of experience in finance and leadership, with academic preparation in economics and business.

Khadija Said Sheikh

Board Member

Health counselor and psychotherapist with a master’s in Autism Spectrum Disorder and leadership experience in neurodevelopmental disability services, with 18 years of experience.
