The vision

A holistic model for child care and community development

The Ramaas Orphanage and Sustainable Farm Project combines safe living and learning spaces with healthcare, clean water, agriculture, livestock, recreation, and staff capacity building. The goal is a nurturing environment that meets children’s immediate needs while building a more self-sufficient system for long-term care.

Where things stand: important facilities have been established, but major construction, equipment, water, health, transport, and agricultural needs remain. Progress and photographs will be published as work advances.

Improve the living conditions, education, health, and well-being of orphaned children through completed infrastructure, sustainable resources, and holistic care.

Specific objectives

• Complete and equip safe, appropriate living and learning facilities.
• Establish and strengthen a sustainable farm that supports food production and agricultural learning.
• Expand livestock to support nutrition and generate sustainable income.
• Improve water security through a second solar-powered well and storage system.
• Improve access through a school bus and service vehicle.
• Provide healthcare through a basic health facility, medical supplies, and referral access.
• Create recreation and sports facilities that support children’s development.
• Train staff in childcare, farm management, and water-system operation.

Sustainability

Built to last

The project is designed to strengthen long-term self-reliance. Farm products will support meals for children, and surplus produce may be sold locally to help sustain services. Livestock may support nutrition and generate income for maintenance and operations.

Staff and community members will receive practical training in agriculture, water systems, livestock care, and childcare. Agricultural learning can also help children develop useful knowledge and a connection to the local economy.

Ramaas will review progress against construction, procurement, water, farm, livestock, enrollment, health, and training milestones, reporting completed activities, expenditures, challenges, corrective actions, and photographs as the project advances.
